Tour Day 5
Shakespeare's Globe / Tower Bridge / Borough Market
Our morning started with a trip to Shakespeare's Globe. It was bright and sunny out while we passed by some neat sights like the George inn which is one of the last surviving galleried inn's in London. We also got to pass by the replica of the galleon ship known as the Golden Hinde.
The Globe itself was very interesting. It was fascinating to learn about how the Globe had been built using traditional techniques. While we were their, we also got to see some actors who were practicing for their play, so we weren't able to take pictures of the stage. It made us wish we had more time to book tickets for one of their plays!
After that, we had some free time, so we headed straight to Borough Market to eat all the food our stomachs could handle. It was still early in the day, so we were able to try out a lot of great foods without dealing with huge lines. The best thing we had was the Sausage Rolls from the Ginger Pig - it was definitely worth the hype!
To end the day, we visited the Shard. We had booked tickets right around Sunset, and we managed to get a wonderful view of London as the sun went down. (P.S. they even had a view from the bathroom!)
Tour Day 6
Windsor Castle & Town
On this day, we took a train to Windsor and Eaton to explore Windsor Castle and the Town of Windsor. It was neat to see the views outside of London through the countryside. Once we got to Windsor Castle, we were able to wander around and explore on our own. Queen Mary's doll house was very cool - it was fascinating how true to life it was, it even has running water and electricity. We also got to see St. George's Chapel, which is where Queen Elizabeth was laid to rest.
After exploring Windsor Castle, we decided to wander through the town before stopping for lunch. We went down to the river and walked around a bit more before heading back to the train station. We wanted to rest a bit before our farewell dinner later that evening with the group.
As we had dinner, it was fun talking to the other members about their experiences on the trip. While it was a "farewell dinner", it was nice to randomly see other tour members around the hotel even after the tour had ended. What was nice about the Rick Steve's experience was that we never really felt alone there, which added a sense of community to the trip.
